Nicole Nicholson, Music Director

About Nicole Nicholson, Music Director of Bel Canto:

Nicole Nicholson is delighted for the opportunity to serve as Music Director of the Bel Canto Chorale. During the day, Nicole serves as the Director of Education for The Little Orchestra Society in Manhattan, where she manages the Musical Connections School Partners Program,  after-school music programs, weekly music workshops for children and families at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and music programming in various community centers, senior centers and libraries.

Prior to that, Nicole shared her talents as a 4th and 5th grade teacher in Long Island. From 2009-2014, Nicole served as a Special Education Teacher in the Bronx and Brooklyn where her artistic background really came in handy, helping her to find new and innovative pathways to teach. Serving in underprivileged neighborhoods and schools, she was inspired to learn about the world of Development.  As a teacher, she saw a need for so many things and so she learned how to research and write grant proposals.

In addition to her service in the classroom, she is currently serving as a Music Director for Christ Lutheran Church in Wantagh, where she directs an adult, youth and hand bell choir. Prior to her role at Christ Lutheran, she served as Director of Youth Music at Saint Matthew R.C. Church from 2007 to 2015, building a dedicated and vibrant youth choir from the ground up. In addition, she worked as Assistant to the Music Director at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Brooklyn from 2014-2018 working with the adult and youth choirs.

Nicole sings and plays the flute for various weddings and church events in Long Island and New York City. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hartwick College, a Master of Arts from New York University and a Master’s in Education from Hunter College. She is thankful to be back serving a community of people that sculpted her true love and passion for music.

Kamelija Galijan, Accompanist

About Kamelija Galijan:

Rehearsal accompanist Kamelija Galijan hails from Belgrade, Serbia. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Novi Sad in Serbia, and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Ensemble Arts from the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University. During her studies, she accompanied many soloists through a wide repertoire of classical music.

Ms. Galijan has accompanied various ensembles and soloists throughout Europe and was the official accompanist for the Petar Kongovic International Flute Competition.  She has continued her accompanying career here on Long Island, working with choral ensembles and student soloists.

Ms. Galijan presents a deep and sensitive style to her playing, interpreting each piece in the context of its musical style and period. She is valued as an accompanist because of her ability to complement her partner’s interpretation. Ms. Galijan maintains an active teaching schedule, working with students from elementary through adulthood.
